WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND? WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO WEALTH?:
Ptolemais is from a working class dairy farming family in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Her family has never had access to a stable income as weather heavily impacts their livelihood and climate change is responsible for increasingly unpredictable seasons and conditions. Ptolemais works in construction and makes 24 NZD an hour; her parents don't (can't) assist with her finances; she isn't down for any kind of inheritance to her knowledge. She has been on the dole before. Ptolemais views wealth as something that happens to other people and not her
WHAT WOULD/DID YOUR CHARACTER MAJOR IN?:
She wouldn't/didn't. Ptolemais dropped out of college at Year 12 (Grade 11) without university entrance. She went to a trade academy for a year to make up for qualifications, then applied for and accepted a drainlaying and gasfitting apprenticeship. She isn't currently interested in obtaining any major qualifications
WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER?:
When Ptolemais was 12 she was sleeping over at her best friend's house when two armed men broke into the house after midnight. They panicked when confronted by two angry parents brandishing a shotgun and murdered them both in cold blood. They stabbed Ptolemais in the neck to get rid of what they thought was the sole witness to the crime but she was recovered alive and sent swiftly to hospital. Ptolemais's friend, who hid for the entirety of the invasion, was swallowed up by an international media storm ('Twelve-year-old loses parents in nightmare double homicide' etc etc) and got a lucrative book deal five years on, and a Netflix docudrama tie-in, so that was nice for her
